Summer Treats That Are Good for Teeth

June 18, 2021 9:24 pm

June means that summer is in full swing. It is also National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month! To celebrate accordingly, we put together a list of some summer treats that not only taste good but are also better for your teeth than many other summer treats out there.

Watermelon is one of summer’s most beloved snacks. This juicy fruit is full of water and vitamin C, making it a great choice for staying hydrated and promoting strong gums. Water helps you produce saliva, your mouth’s natural rinse, and vitamin C helps fight off inflammation and infection.

Fruit-Infused Water

Take your water from dull to delicious by infusing it with some fruit. Not only does a pitcher of fruit-infused water make an attractive addition to any picnic table, it’s also a much healthier option than sugar-filled sodas, juices, and lemonades. Strawberries and mint, for example, make for a delicious combination. Just be careful not to add too many lemons or limes since their acid can damage your enamel, the outer layer of your teeth.

Cheese is an irresistible snack that boosts your teeth’s health thanks to its calcium content. It also contains a protein called casein that helps balance the pH of your mouth. This protects your teeth from acidic compounds in other foods and the acidic byproducts made by bacteria in your mouth. String cheese or a platter of assorted cheeses are tooth-healthy snacks for any summer gathering!
