Outdoor Activities for Families in San Antonio

We hope this list gives you some ideas of fun things to do around town whether you’re looking to cut down on screen time, to explore the city with guests, or simply create lasting family memories.

Your family can have a unique cultural experience while learning about history and architecture during a narrated river cruise along the San Antonio River Walk. Or watch the colorful river barges from the pathway by strolling around the River Walk. You can enjoy restaurants, shopping, music, and special events throughout the year.
Mission Reach is several miles of walking and biking trails that connect Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission Espada, Mission San Jose, and Mission Concepcion. This path provides an engaging mix of scenic nature, historical sites, parks, and playgrounds along the way. If you don’t own a bike, there are bikes to rent.
The Japanese Tea Garden is free and open daily. Your family can get some light exercise by wandering among the shaded paths, bridges, and ponds with enormous fish. You could even bring a sketchpad to identify plants and capture the pretty waterfall.
The San Antonio Zoo is one of the best and largest in the United States! Besides the variety of animals and beautiful exhibits, you can take a 20 minute train ride tour through Brackenridge Park. There are also a few stops at the Japanese Tea Garden, Sunken Garden, and the Witte Museum.
